"How could we go from strength to weakness, worker to sexpot, muscles to mammary glands in such a short period of time?"

Saturday Evening Post

"To support the Women in Necessary Services campaign in the fall of 1943, it asked its foremost illustrator, Normal Rockwell, to create an appropriate Labor Day cover."

"Maxwell House coffee recruitment ads portrayed war workers in warm domestic scenes to attract middle-class women into the labor force, yet the subliminal message was that pulling women out of the home would not damage family life."

Advertising in Wartime

Main ideas-
-Advertising used to sell war
-Advertisers use war themed products during times of war

Quotes from the Article

"Advertising logically should be at its lowest ebb. but no. Advertising in all media, says the United States Department of Commerce, has increased about 60 percent over the prewar level."

This quote makes sense to me because during war time advertising is used to push people into joining the army or when trying to sell products during the war. Using wars to advertise products increases the sales of products because people feel that by buying military endorsed products you are supporting the troops.

"The money spent for advertising would, if left unspent, go to the Treasury Department, where it would help pay for the war."

This is very interesting to me because typically advertising is done by a private party not by the government.

"We're in the midst of that once again.  Only this time the advertisement of ideas is basic to our whole future"

This was basically the whole idea during WWII that if war was not supported by everyone in the US it would be lost and our whole future would be lost.

War bonds were needed to be bought to help pay for the war these type of ads were the ones that the extra money would go to the government

More Pro-US advertising.
